Fall Festivals Near Gatlinburg 2026: Craftsmen’s Fair, Oktoberfest & Dollywood’s Harvest Festival

Late September is when the Smokies start filling up again. The summer crowds thin out for a few weeks, the ridgelines start to turn, and then October arrives and it feels like everyone in the Southeast had the same idea. A big part of the draw is the festival calendar — and if you know what’s on and when, you can plan a fall trip that dodges the worst of the traffic and still catches the best of it.

Here’s our rundown of the fall festivals near Gatlinburg for 2026, with dates confirmed from the organizers themselves, plus a few notes from years of watching guests plan (and re-plan) their October trips.

Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair: October 8–28

If we had to pick one fall event to send guests to, this is it. The Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair fills the Gatlinburg Convention Center with more than 200 booths of juried, handmade work — pottery, leather, copper, woodwork, candy makers — and a lot of the artisans are working on pieces right there in their booths. It’s the kind of place where you go in for an hour and come out at 4:30 with a hand-turned bowl you didn’t know you needed.

The details

  • Dates: October 8–28, 2026, open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where: Gatlinburg Convention Center, 234 Airport Road
  • Admission: $12 for adults; kids 17 and under get in free with a paying adult. Tickets are sold at the door only.
  • Free return visits: Bring your ID to the fair office at the end of aisle 500 and they’ll give you an unlimited multi-day pass at no extra cost.
  • Music: Country, bluegrass and gospel shows on the stage at noon and 3 p.m. daily, included with admission.

That free multi-day pass is the part most people miss. Our advice: go on a weekday morning for your first lap, then come back later in the trip for the booth you keep thinking about. It’s also the best place in the area to knock out early Christmas shopping for the people who are hard to buy for.

Oktoberfest at Ober Mountain: September 25–November 1

Ober has been throwing an Oktoberfest on top of the mountain for years, and the 2026 version runs from September 25 through November 1. Expect a Bavarian-style biergarten pouring five German-style beers from Yee-Haw Brewing, schnitzel, sausages, giant pretzels, apple strudel and pumpkin fudge, plus stein-holding and barrel-roll contests most afternoons.

There’s no separate ticket for Oktoberfest itself. Activity passes — the aerial tram, scenic chairlift, coaster and the rest — are sold on their own if you want to make a day of it. Riding the tram up as the leaves turn on the slopes below is half the fun.

When to go

The Polka Dots, the local band that tends to get the whole biergarten on its feet, play September 25–27, October 4, October 9–11 and October 23–25. The Polkawagen duo covers October 16–18 and the closing stretch from October 30 to November 1. One thing to note: Ober’s own calendar lists the event as closed September 29 and 30, so plan around those two days.

LOCAL TIP

October Saturdays in downtown Gatlinburg are some of the busiest days of the whole year. If you can shift your downtown day — Craftsmen’s Fair, Ober, or both — to a Monday through Thursday, you’ll spend a lot less of it looking for a parking spot.

Dollywood’s Harvest Festival: September 14–October 31

Over in Pigeon Forge, Dollywood’s Harvest Festival is already underway and runs through Halloween. The festival, its concerts and the evening Great Pumpkin LumiNights are all included with regular park admission. LumiNights is the one people drive over for: more than 12,000 pumpkins lit up across the park, including a 40-foot pumpkin tree. Dollywood suggests being in the park from about 6 p.m. until close, since the displays look their best after sunset.

New this year is Harvey’s Boo Bash, the park’s first separately ticketed after-hours party. It runs only three nights — October 16, 23 and 30 — from 9 p.m. to midnight, with trick-or-treat trails, late-night rides and costume-friendly dance parties. Tickets are $129.99 plus tax and get you into the park at 4 p.m., so one ticket covers an afternoon at the festival, LumiNights at dusk and the party after. Dollywood caps how many they sell each night, so book early if you’ve got kids who will want to go.

Gatlinburg’s Harvest Festival and the Scarecrow Hunt

You don’t need a ticket for this one. The City of Gatlinburg runs its Smoky Mountain Harvest Festival from mid-September through late November, and downtown businesses go all out on fall displays. The best part for families is the Scarecrow Scavenger Hunt: 30 life-size scarecrow figures are set up around downtown, and you can track them down using the Visit Gatlinburg app. There’s also a People’s Choice vote for the best-decorated business.

It pairs well with a Craftsmen’s Fair day, since you’re already downtown. Walk the Parkway, find a few scarecrows, and let the kids pick their favorite display.

The Arts & Crafts Loop (Open All Fall)

This isn’t a festival, but in October it feels like one. The Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community dates back to 1937 and runs along an 8-mile loop of Glades Road, Buckhorn Road and Highway 321, with over 100 artists, studios and small eateries along the way.

For our guests staying on the Cosby side, the loop is easy to reach. Highway 321 into Gatlinburg runs right past the Buckhorn Road end, so you can stop in on the way to town or on the way home. It’s a quieter, slower alternative to downtown when the Parkway is packed.

A Simple Fall Festival Weekend Plan

If you’re trying to fit it all into a long weekend in October, here’s the rhythm we’d suggest:

  • Thursday or Friday: Craftsmen’s Fair in the morning, scarecrow hunt downtown after lunch, then the tram up to Ober for Oktoberfest in the late afternoon.
  • Saturday: Stay out of downtown. Do a morning hike, then drive the Arts & Crafts loop at your own pace.
  • Sunday or Monday: Head to Pigeon Forge for an afternoon at Dollywood, and stay late for LumiNights.

Then come back to the cabin, light the fire pit, and put your feet up. After a day of crowds, that part matters more than people expect.

Where to Stay for Fall Festival Season

October is our busiest month, and the cabins with the best fall setups tend to book first. A few that work especially well for festival weekends:

Open living room at Cabin in the Smoky Mountains with leather sectional, pine walls and floor-to-ceiling windows

Cabin in the Smoky Mountains

A big open living room with a wall of windows — plenty of room to spread out your Craftsmen’s Fair haul.

Rivers Edge cabin living and dining area with a lit stone fireplace and leather sofa

Rivers Edge

A stone fireplace and warm pine interior, made for cool October evenings after a late night at LumiNights.

Fire pit ringed by Adirondack chairs in the woods outside Mountain Rest cabin

Mountain Rest

An outdoor fire pit tucked into the trees, the right way to end a festival day.

Traveling with a bigger group for the Craftsmen’s Fair or a Dollywood weekend? Maddron Bald Mountain Home has a full kitchen with a big granite island, which makes feeding everyone a lot easier.

Fall weekends go fast. See which of our cabins are still open for your festival dates.
